New Challenges #009
Welcome again to Every Dawn, where each morning offers one thought to carry into your day.
I started making this series of videos as part of what seems like a crazy project. I already have a full-time job, a family, and two other YouTube channels where I produce a video each week. Additionally, I manage a newsletter and a philosophy website. It seems I already don't have enough time for my life, and yet here I am, committing to another daily task.
However, there were two reasons why I wanted to do this, and why I still do. Every time I think it's crazy, I convince myself again that it's not, because of these two reasons. The first is the obvious one: this channel offers exactly what I would have wanted to read myself when it didn't exist. I was always searching for a channel that provided a kind of daily, short, inspirational message that wasn't idiotic or superficial. Many channels try to offer a quote for the day, but it often seems machine-made or like it's some form of religious preaching, which I'm not into. I wanted something a bit more high-quality, a bit more philosophical, but still inspirational for every day. This is what I'm trying to achieve with this channel, and I'm happy doing it. It's as much for me as it is for you, because by thinking about this message, I'm receiving exactly what I'm giving.
The next reason is that I realized this is good for me. Forcing myself to do this every day initially felt overwhelming, almost impossible. However, I've noticed how much easier it now feels to produce my weekly videos for my other channels. It's become nearly effortless. If you edit a video every day, you become very quick at it. I won't say it's a good edit, but it certainly is efficient. What previously seemed like a lot of work—publishing once a week—now seems very easy.
There's even a saying about this: "If you need something done quickly, find a busy person to do it." The idea is that busy people aren't just filling their time with meaningless tasks. They are busy because they know how to do things efficiently. Being busy means they are successful in managing their tasks efficiently, and adding another task isn't going to derail them—it will just be handled more efficiently.
Sometimes we dream of the next holiday, thinking that then we'll finally have the time to embark on a particular project—be it painting, drawing, making more videos, or writing. But often, when the holiday arrives, you might find yourself waking up late, taking a leisurely breakfast, and then getting distracted by the newspaper, YouTube, or social media. Before you know it, it's lunchtime, then dinner, and the day is over without achieving anything. Having free time does not necessarily mean we have the capacity to use it effectively. Being in a productive mindset enables more productive work.
I find that I'm most productive when I have classes, when I'm with my children, when I have family obligations, and then I squeeze in another task. I feel that it will be done quickly, and it’s just in these times of stress that I am most productive—not during holidays.
So, this is the purpose of this channel. I hope it will help me become more productive by forcing me to engage with it every day. I hope you enjoy it too and get something out of it. Please tell me about your own experiences with work, stress and procrastination in the comments.
Thank you, and see you next time!
