It’s dawn, early morning. The first light of day turns the hills blue and the sky a faint rose colour. Slowly, one by one, the birds awaken. It is the quiet hour where even in the most crowded city it may seem as if one is the only person alive.
You may know the Cat Stevens song, Morning Has Broken. But did you know that the song and the lyrics are actually from Eleanor Farjeon, written in 1931?
Morning has broken
like the first morning,
blackbird has spoken
like the first bird.Praise for the singing!
Praise for the morning!
Praise for them, springing
fresh from the Word!
There’s a magic to mornings that is unlike any other time of day. Mornings are filled with promise, with the certainty that we can attempt anything on this day, achieve anything, succeed at anything. And if we fail, if the evening finds us in the same old place as before — there’s always the next morning to look forward to, the next dawn. Another promise, another day, another life.
Come with me, on this channel, as we explore the magic of every new morning. Five times a week, from Monday to Friday, I will be trying to find a little piece of that magic of the dawn to light up our day, or perhaps to make us stop for a moment and think, or just open our eyes and look at the fresh world all around us.
Because this is what the magic of mornings deserves. It’s a sin to waste it on scrolling through one’s phone, or stumbling half asleep around the bathroom clutching a toothbrush.
Let’s raise our eyes up to the sky every new morning, let’s extend our hands and grasp that precious moment where everything is made of light and birdsong and promise.
Join me and let us celebrate every dawn together!
